What it does

This automation watches a column you choose. Whenever a cell in that column is edited (and isn’t empty), it sends an email containing values from that row. Ideal for status changes, new entries, assignments, and any column-as-trigger workflow — no need to keep checking the sheet.

How to set it up

  1. Install Sheet Automation from the Google Workspace Marketplace and open it from your sheet.
  2. Note the column you want to watch (e.g. A).
  3. Pick the “Send email when a cell is updated” template, set the column and recipient, and write the subject/body using {column_A} placeholders.
  4. Save, then edit a cell in that column to test — the email arrives instantly.

FAQ

Is it free?
Yes — this automation works on the free plan. Paid plans add more monthly runs and advanced actions.
Which changes trigger it?
You choose the column to watch; editing any cell in that column fires the rule (only when the cell isn’t empty).
Can I include other columns in the email?
Yes. Use placeholders like {column_A}, {column_B} in the subject or body.
Can I narrow when it fires?
Yes. Add conditions (e.g. value equals “Done”) so it only emails on the changes you care about.
Do I need Zapier or Make?
No. Sheet Automation runs inside Google Sheets, so there’s no third-party connector to pay for or maintain.
