Hide a row when a checkbox is ticked in Google Sheets

Done items shouldn't clutter the view — but you don't want to delete them either. Tick the checkbox and the row hides itself, data intact.

What it does

This automation watches a checkbox column. When a box is ticked, the row is hidden from view while staying fully in the sheet — formulas, references, and history all keep working. Perfect for task lists, packing lists, and review queues where finished rows should get out of the way but remain on record.

How to set it up

  1. Install Sheet Automation from the Google Workspace Marketplace and open it from your sheet.
  2. Pick the “Hide row when checkbox is ticked” template.
  3. Set the checkbox column if it isn't column A.
  4. Save. Tick a checkbox — the row disappears from view immediately.

FAQ

Is the row deleted?
No. It's only hidden — unhide it any time from the row menu, and formulas referencing it keep working.
Can I hide based on a status value instead of a checkbox?
Yes. Change the condition to match any value, e.g. status equals Done.
Can rows be unhidden automatically too?
Yes. Create a second rule with the Hide Row action in unhide mode when the box is unticked.
